Accountancy as a career

If you want a career in business, the best way to achieve this is by studying the accounting discipline.

In Albury Wodonga, we are fortunate to have two universities that offer tertiary qualifications in accounting. This means that local high school leavers can choose to stay local and start a rewarding career that has excellent long term employment prospects.

Working for an accounting firm is called public practice as compared to working as a commercial accountant for an individual business. Both career paths offer diversity and the roles can be quite different depending upon the size of the practice or the business you are working for.

Contrary to what many people think, working as an accountant involves variety. It also requires attention to detail and excellent relationship building skills. Accountancy is really a people business.

In conjunction with La Trobe University, the below series of videos invites school leavers and career changers to explore the dynamic world of Accounting. These videos challenge outdated perceptions, showing that Accounting is much more than numbers – it’s about connection, impact, and personal fulfilment.

Featuring Johnsons MME as well as other local accountants and businesses, the videos share authentic stories about the value of building a career and contributing to the Albury-Wodonga community.
