Originally from Yarrawonga, Gary completed all his education in Yarrawonga, finishing with his final two senior years at Galen College Wangaratta.

Gary received his Bachelor of Commerce in 1985 after studying at the University of Melbourne. He also became a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia in 1991.

Gary commenced work with our antecedent firm, Coopers & Lybrand in January 1985 as an auditor, progressing to the role of audit manager by 1990. After a short time overseas, Gary transferred to business services and now focuses on advising small and medium businesses in taxation and other business related matters.

Gary was first admitted as Partner in 2000 and was the Managing Director at Johnsons MME from 2011 to 1 July 2022. He retired in 2024.

Gary deals with a wide range of clients, including primary producers, transport operators, builders, motor vehicle dealers, irrigation operators, estate and stock & station agents, licensed premises, legal practitioners and medical professionals, as well as investor clients.

Gary has been involved in negotiations with Treasury and senior ATO Officers regarding various taxation issues including complex CGT matters for both small and large businesses alike. Gary has also done several presentations to various industry groups, focusing on taxation or other business related matters.

Rod was born in Holbrook and after his school days in Leeton and Albury, he completed his accounting degree at the Riverina College of Advanced Education in Wagga Wagga. Rod was admitted to the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (now known as Chartered Accountants of Australia and New Zealand) in 1983 and was advanced to the status of a Fellow of the Institute in 1996, recognising his contribution to the profession and his community involvement.

Rod became a partner in the Albury office of Coopers & Lybrand in 1987, and he remained as a partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers following the merger of the two big 4 accounting firms. He was the Managing Partner of the firm for 12 years, including at the time Johnsons MME became a locally owned practice in 2000.

After an illustrious career spanning decades of dedication and expertise, Rod retired on 1 July 2023

Rod practiced in the Business Services division of the firm, providing tax and business advice to emerging family owned business clients in a diverse range of industries. He has wonderful clients in the farming, manufacturing and building industries and provides the full range of services to those businesses.

Rod has a particular strength in succession planning involving restructuring and business planning, being able to build relationships with the different generations within family groups to enhance the likely success of the process.

He is involved in providing advice to businesses on structures, taxation, and strategies for improved business outcomes.

Rod has a strong belief in the local region. His decades of strong involvement in Ovens & Murray Australian Rules attest to that. Rod has held the role of Chairman of Selectors for the North Albury Football Club and the Ovens & Murray Representative team and he has also been a selector at Victorian Country level. He is a life member of the North Albury Football Club. He now currently sits on the Board of the Albury Race Club.

Rod and his wife Jen spend as much time as they can with their four children and their grandchildren. Both Rod and Jen ride sports motor bikes, enjoy great food and wine, and love life.
